Project description
To avoid costly anthropogenic climate change requires global action to abate greenhouse gas emissions. This project explores three areas that can help make such action more likely: 1. Developing and improving treaty mechanisms that increase the incentives for individual nations to join treaties, set sufficient treaty targets, abide by the agreed abatement targets, and punish defectors. 2. Exploring the implications of nations and treaty negotiators being affected by moral sentiments in the negotiation process, such as reciprocity. 3. Better understand the widespread scepticism and dislike of efficiency enhancing policy instruments derived from economic theory, such as quota trading. The project primarily employs game theory and theoretical modelling (parts 1 and 2) and laboratory experiments (part 3).Publications
