Project description

The project aims at developing an econometric modelling tool for discrete labour supply decisions, based the assumption that individuals choose between ’job packages’, consisting of a given wage, given work-hours and given unobserved attributes. The approach is particularly fruitful for persons facing an ’either-or-type-decision’ in the labour market, in which the they basically choose between a full time job, a part time job, or no job at all. The methodological challenge is to decompose peoples observed behaviour in a component reflecting individual choices and a component reflecting limitations in the their choice sets.
