To provide policy-relevant evidence-based research of high scientific quality about the dynamics of the ongoing economic crisis, and insights to policies that are efficient in counteracting the recession, mitigating its consequences and spurring economic recovery.
Secondary objectives:
To provide a comprehensive description of the economic consequences of the crisis and the recovery, for individuals, households, and firms.
To study the dynamics of the crisis; i.e., how it spreads across industries through demand and supply chains.
To examine the impacts of public policies that have been implemented to fight the crisis, and evaluate them from a cost-benefit perspective.
To assess the new economic opportunities generated by the crisis, e.g., in the form of reallocating valuable skills.
To use the crisis as a “natural experiment” in order to learn more about economic mechanisms and to assess the tradeoffs between insurance and incentives.
