Project description
This project studies the gender difference in sickness absence and in particular looks at whether differences in norms, attitudes and priorities in life can explain why women have more sickness absence than men. In this project we will study whether there are gender differences in norms, attitudes and priorities in life, and the relationship between such potential differences and sickness absence. To study this we will conduct a survey among a sample of employees within public health care. Our measure of sickness absence includes both self-reported and physician-reported sickness absence at the individual level for the employees who consented to participate in the study. We examine whether employee characteristics, job characteristics and our survey measures of norms, attitudes and priorities can explain the gender difference in sickness absence in our sample. The project is financed by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.Publications
